Interlacing recent history and ethnology with current events

The mission of the Museum of Recent History Celje is to ensure the permanent and uninterrupted performance of the public service of preserving, exploring, presenting, exhibiting and popularising the mobile cultural heritage from the fields of history and ethnology from the beginning of the 20th century onwards. The museum, in compliance with the rules and goals of the museum profession, houses the mobile cultural heritage of Celje and the Celje region and presents it to the widest circle of the public. The field of activity connects the recent national and regional history and ethnology with modernity and actuality. This is the basis both for the collecting policy and museum collections as well as for other versatile popularisation activities and the museum’s offer. Special attention is given to younger visitors of the museum, who can take part in pedagogical programs and activities.

Accessible parkingThere are two disabled parking spots in front of the museum. If both are occupied, you can park behind the museum building, where another two disabled parking spots are found.
Accessible entranceThe museum can be entered both from the front and from the back. The main entrance is barrier-free, while the back one has a ramp.
If you are using the main entrance the info desk will be on the left-hand side. There you can get information about the exhibitions you can visit. People with physical disabilities can use the elevator, while the blind and partially-sighted visitors can use tactile markings and inscriptions in Braille. There are a few places in the museum which have a step, but these obstacles are overcome with the use of movable ramps.
Accessible toiletToilets adapted to both people in wheelchairs as well as blind and short-sighted are located on the museum’s ground floor. Unfortunately, the toilets are not equipped with handrails. Another disabled toilet is located on the second floor, where you will also find a baby changing room.
Additional accessible offerTemporary exhibitions, museum shop.
Accessible pathsThe museum is located in the old city centre of Celje, which is nicely accessible and can be visited independently. There are several interesting tourist spots in the vicinity. The ground is mostly asphalted and paved with stone slabs or granite blocks. The banks of the Savinja river are well-kept, the ground there is also mostly asphalted and in some places covered in macadam.
